Error "Unable to establish output connection" Publishing Flow to Non-Default Site via Command Line Interface

Published: 23 Aug 2018

Issue

When you use the Tableau Prep command line interface to publish to a project not in the default site, the following error occurs, and the publication fails:

Unable to establish output connection

Environment

  • Tableau Prep 2018.2.2
  • Tableau Server

Resolution

Earlier versions of Tableau Prep’s Command Line Interface (CLI) functionality (2018.2.2 and earlier) only had the ability to publish to the Default site with the "contentUrl":"" syntax”.

In order to publish to non-default sites, upgrade to 2018.2.3 or later to enjoy the full functionality of Tableau Prep’s CLI.

  1. Click here to download and upgrade to the most current version of Tableau Prep.
  2. Follow the instructions in Product Help to perform CLI functions.
