Issue

When connecting Cloudera Hadoop hive from Tableau Server, user gets this error:
 
Error "Unable-to-connect-to-the-datasource-via-ODBC-Cloudera-ThriftExtension-9-Error-occurred-while-authenticating-via-SASL-Error-details-SASL-1-generic-failure-GSSAPI-Error-Unspecified-GSS-failure-Minor-code-may-provide-more-information"

Environment

  • Tableau Server 2020.1.0 or later
  • Red Hat (RHEL) Linux 7
  • Cloudera Hadoop Hive

Cause

The user is unable to connect Clouldera Hadoop Hive from Tableau Server whether by live connection or refresh extract. the issue because of the Kerboros Run as User is not enabled in Tableau Server.
