Error "This site has been suspended" When Signing in to Tableau Cloud in Tableau Desktop

Issue

When trying to activate Tableau Desktop by signing in to Tableau Cloud, the following error may occur:

This site has been suspended. You must be a System Administrator to sign in.
(errorCode=10029)

Environment

  • Tableau Cloud 2021.4
  • Tableau Desktop 2021.4
  • User is a member of both an active Tableau Cloud site and a suspended site.

Resolution

As a workaround, use the following steps:
  1. Launch Tableau Desktop and in the Activate Tableau dialog, select Activate by signing in to a server.
  2. For the Server field, enter: https://<host name (instance)>/#/site/<site url> (For example: https://prod-apnortheast-a.online.tableau.com/#/site/mytableausite)
  3. Click Connect, enter your email address, select Sign In and carry out the rest of the steps to sign in to Tableau Cloud.
