Error "This field's name is longer than the 50 character limit" Using Fewer than 50 Multibyte Characters with Ask Data

Issue

When using a language that has multi-byte characters, Ask Data returns the following warning: 
This field’s name is longer than the 50 character limit. This field won’t be available in Ask Data.
When the field name is less than 50 characters. 

For example:

User-added image

Environment

  • Tableau Server 2019.1 or later

Resolution

Workaround
  • Reduce the length of field name
  • Use latin alphabet up to 50 characters

Cause

Ask Data use UTF-8 encoding and the maximum character limit is actually 50 bytes.
Field names containing multibyte characters may be restricted to fewer than 50 characters.
This behavior is related to a known issue with ID 958876 which is currently under investigation.
