Error "That page cannot be accessed..." When Logging into Site SAML site on Tableau Server

Issue

As a user of a Site SAML site, you are unable to authenticate properly to the site when Tableau Server is configured for Local and Site SAML. The following error might occur:

That page cannot be accessed. Either it does not exist, or you do not have the necessary permissions.

Additionally, the above error message might also occur if the site is configured for Server wide and Site SAML. 

Environment

Tableau Server

Resolution

Ensure the wgserver.saml.idpattribute.username is set to "username".

Open the command prompt (Run as Administrator) and navigate to the Tableau\Tableau Server\<version>\bin directory
  1. Stop Tableau Server 
  2. Set the wgserver.saml.idpattribute.username value to default
    • For Tableau Server version 2018.2 or newer versions,  use the tsm commands.       tsm configuration set -k wgserver.saml.idpattribute.username -d
    • For Tableau Server version 2018.1 or older versions, please use the tabadmin commands.       tabadmin set wgserver.saml.idpattribute.username -d
  3. Save the configuration
    • For Tableau Server version 2018.2 or newer versions,  use the tsm commands.       tsm pending-changes apply
    • For Tableau Server version 2018.1 or older versions, please use the tabadmin commandstabadmin set wgserver.saml.idpattribute.username -d
  4. Start Tableau Server

Cause

The Site SAML feature requires the wgserver.saml.idpattribute.username value to be set to "username" (default value) for the feature to work as designed.
