Error "Resource not found" When Loading Embedded Content Using Connected Apps

Published: 24 Jul 2023
Last Modified Date: 24 Jul 2023

Issue

When loading an embedded view that uses Tableau connected apps with direct trust for authentication, the following error may occur:

Resource not found
Please check the URL and try again.

Environment

  • Tableau Cloud
  • Connected apps with direct trust
  • Embedding API v3

Resolution

Check whether you have set the access level for the connected app to only one project. If so, verify that the workbook containing the view is in the specified project (and not a nested project in that project).

Cause

The access level for the connected app is configured to apply to only one project (instead of all projects), and the view is in a workbook that is not in the specified project. Note: If the specified project contains nested projects, embedding content in those nested projects is not enabled. See Access level (embedding workflows only).

Additional Information

A status code 404 response may also occur when the authenticated Tableau Cloud user does not have view permissions for the embedded view. For more information about setting permissions on content, see Set permissions.
