"Error processing the request" When Connecting to Excel file

Issue

When attempting to connect to an Excel file in Tableau Prep a "Error Processing Request" message is received. or output files are unable to complete.

Environment

Tableau Prep 2018.2.2 or newer

Resolution

Upgrade to Tableau Prep 2019.2.3 or a newer version. For more information about upgrading, see Install or Upgrade Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep Builder - Tableau and Version Compatibility with Tableau Prep.

Cause

This behavior is related to a known issue with ID 798785 which was fixed in Tableau Prep 2019.2.3.
