Error "PQstatus: 1, could not connect to server: All pipe instances are busy. (0x000000E7/231)" Appears Connecting to Excel/CSV/Text

Issue

When connecting to an Excel/CSV/Text file, the following error appears:
 
"PQstatus: 1, could not connect to server: All pipe instances are busy. (0x000000E7/231) Is the server running locally and accepting connections on named pipe "//./pipe/{XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX}"?" 

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 10.5 or later
  • Tableau Prep

Resolution

Exclude the processes below from the system monitoring tool:

Tableau Desktop
  • C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau <Version>\bin\tableau.exe 
  • C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau <Version>\bin\hyper\hyperd.exe 
Tableau Prep
  • C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Prep <Version>\Tableau Prep.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Prep <Version>\resources\app\tableau-1.3\build\Release-x64\hyper\hyperd.exe

Microsoft Previous Versions Documentation regarding the following error message:
 
0x000000E7 ERROR_PIPE_BUSY  All pipe instances are busy.

Explanation:

The pipe cannot be accessed because another process is using it.

User Action:

Try the operation again later.
