Error "Operation Timed Out" Refreshing Large Extracts Using Bridge

When using Tableau Bridge (Sync Client) to refresh extracts that take more than 15 minutes to complete, the following error might occur: 
Could not refresh the data source. If the issue persists, contact Tableau Support. 


  • Tableau Online 9.2 and 9.3 
  • Tableau Bridge (formerly Sync Client 9.2.x and 9.3.0)


Scheduled refreshes causes the Tableau Bridge (Sync Client) to quit unexpectedly. This behavior is related to a known issue that has been corrected in more recent releases.

The below related error displays in the Bridge (Sync Client) log file. 
"The Data Source: [Data Source Name] failed to refresh due to the following error: Failed to refresh data source: [Data Source Name] due to the following error: Operation timed out.\n"}
