Error: One Or More Of The Data Sources For This Workbook Don't Support Embedded Password

Issue

Saved credentials are not present in the Tableau Desktop publish embed options.
Saved credentials continue to prompt for connection after publishing.

Environment

Resolution

Option 1

  1. Delete and Re-Add saved credentials for all OAuth data source(s) under user Account Settings in Tableau Online.
  2. Log out of Tableau Online from the Tableau Desktop server menu. 
  3. Log back into Tableau Online from the Tableau Desktop server menu.
  4. Republish the workbook choosing email@username from the drop-down during the publish windows to select the newly saved credentials for the data sources.

Option 2

  1. Delete the saved credentials in Tableau Online Account Settings.
  2. Re-add the saved credentials in Tableau Online by editing the data source connection in Tableau Desktop to get the database server address and role values. Then copy those values from Tableau Desktop into the saved credentials in Tableau Online.
  3. Log out of Tableau Online from the Tableau Desktop server menu. 
  4. Log back into Tableau Online from Tableau Desktop server menu.
  5. Publish to Tableau Online selecting the 'use saved credentials' option now present in the embed data source drop down.

Cause

The data source uses OAuth and the email/username isn’t available under embed options in Tableau Desktop. The credentials may already be populated in Tableau Online user account setting, but it is not recognized by Tableau Desktop.

One or more of the data sources for this workbook don't support Embedded Password. Data sources are: (data source list).

To embed credentials, go to My Account Settings on your server and add saved credentials for data sources related to this workbook. Then reopen this dialog box, edit the data source and select Embed Username to publish.
