Error "No such file or directory" Backing Up tabadmin to Network Drive

When attempting to take a backup using tabadmin and saving to a shared network drive, a "No such file or directory" error is encountered.



Tableau Server 


  1. Open the command prompt as an administrator. 
  2. Run net use to verify that the network drive is not currently available. 
  3. To make the drive available, run the following command: 
    net use <available drive letter>: \\<UNC path to network folder>
  4. Now that the share is available, running "net use" once again should result in something similar to the following: 

    Status       Local     Remote                    Network 
    OK           Z:        \\FileStorage\TableauBackup        Microsoft Windows Network 
  • Running tabadmin backup using the network share which was just created for the temp and backup folder locations should now proceed without issue.


The network drive was not accessible.
