Error "No details available" When Connecting to Oracle

When connecting to an Oracle database, the following error may occur:

Bad Connection: Tableau could not connect to the data source.
No details available.

Additionally, the following error is found in the Tableau Desktop logs:

Unsupported major.minor version


  • Tableau Desktop 2020.1

  • Oracle


To troubleshoot this issue, carry out the following steps:
  1. Check C:\Program Files\Tableau\Drivers for any Oracle JDBC driver files, such as ojdbc8- If any such files are found, move them to a different location.
  2. Download and install the Windows 64-bit Oracle driver for the specific Tableau Desktop version from the Driver Download page.
  3. Try to connect to the Oracle database.


The connection was attempted using an unsupported JDBC driver for the specific Tableau Desktop version.
