Issue

When creating views in Tableau Desktop using calculations, sometimes the following error will occur:

Logical Query tree has [x] nodes, maximum number allowed is 500000. For extract data sources, try optimizing the extract and republishing: https://onlinehelp.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/extracting_optimize.html

Unable to properly calculate the domain for the field '[field name]'. Displayed data may be incorrect.

Cause

The query created by the calculation is too complex.

Additional Information

A long IF THEN calculation can be converted to a Tableau group automatically by duplicating the data source, setting up a blend, and following Bring a Field into the Primary Data Source.
