Error "java.lang.NullPointerException" for Virtual Connection Extract Refresh

After the owner of a virtual connection extract is changed and the original owner is removed from a site, scheduled refresh tasks of the extract may fail with the following error:



  • Tableau Cloud
  • Virtual Connection Extract


As a possible workaround, the current owner of the virtual connection can delete and re-create the scheduled task for the virtual connection:
  1. Sign in to Tableau Cloud in a browser.
  2. Navigate to the Scheduled Tasks tab of the affected virtual connection.
  3. Take note of the current task configuration.
  4. Delete the existing task: Select the check box for the task > Actions > Delete.
  5. Re-create the scheduled task.


This issue is currently under investigation.
