Error "Item Not Found (Error Code 12)" When Connecting to Published Data Sources after Site URL Change

Issue

After changing the site URL of a Tableau Online site, the following error may occur when using Tableau Desktop to open a workbook that connects to a data source that was published before the site URL change was made:

Item Not Found (Error Code 12)

Environment

Tableau Online

Resolution

As a workaround, close the error dialog, click on the Data Source tab and then sign into Tableau Online. 

Cause

This issue is currently being investigated by our development team under Issue ID 927680.

Additional Information

The issue also occurs when opening a newly downloaded workbook, if the workbook connects to a data source that was published before the site URL change was made.
