Error "Internal Server Error" When Publishing After Upgrade

When your try to publish a workbook to Tableau Server, the message "Internal server error" occurs.

Additionally, the following error can be found in the Tableau Server Vizportal logs: 
Extract engine not configured


  • Tableau Server
  • Worker node decommissioned prior to upgrade
  • Decommissioned worker node still on the network with the same name.


Rename or shut down the worker node that was decommissioned prior to the upgrade to Tableau Server.

Additional Information

To determine whether the decommissioned worker node might be the issue, search Tableau Server logs for decommissioned worker node's name and IP address.
