Error "image not recognized" Installing Tableau Desktop on a Mac

Issue

When you try to install Tableau Desktop or Tableau Reader on a Mac, the following error occurs:

Warning
The following disk images couldn't be opened
Image TableauDesktop.dmg
Reason Image not recognized

Environment

Tableau Desktop
Tableau Reader
OS X

Resolution

Option 1: Download the .dmg file in a different web browser

Option 2: Open the .dmg file in DiskImageMounter

Ctrl-click TableauDesktop.dmg, and then select Open With > DiskImageMounter.

Option 3: Disable antivirus software

On the computer on which you are installing Tableau Desktop, disable antivirus software.
Download the TableauDesktop.dmg file again.
Retry the installation.

Cause

The TableauDesktop.dmg file did not download completely, or the file became corrupted during download. Antivirus software might interfere with the file download.
