Error "I18n.init: Locale should be a supported locale file" When Connecting to Google Ads

Issue

When connecting to Google Ads in Tableau Desktop, the following error may occur:

The web data connector has reported an unrecoverable error and cannot proceed. If the connector has reported details of the error, they are displayed in the pane below.
I18n.init: Locale should be a supported locale file:
https://connectors.tableau.com/google/adwords/1/app/adwords.js line: 119837

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 2019.2
  • Google Ads Connector

Resolution

As a workaround, change the user interface language in Tableau Desktop to English (United States):
  1. In Tableau Desktop, select the Help top menu > Choose Language > English (United States).
  2. Restart Tableau Desktop.

Cause

This behavior is related to Issue ID 928545, which is expected to be fixed in a future release.
