Error "General 303 Error" Occurs in Workbook containing Parameters and Date Fields After Upgrading

When upgrading from 10.4 to 10.5.2, the following error happens intermittently on a single workbook with paramters and date fields:

"[SAP AG][LIBODBCHDB DLL][HDBODBC] General error;303 invalid DATE, TIME, or TIMESTAMP value" is displayed.

  • Tableau Desktop 10.4, 10.5
  • Action Filter, Parameter, Date calculated fields

Option 1

Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 2018.1.3; 10.5.6 or later versions. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Desktop in Tableau Help.

Option 2

Use one of the following a possible workaround:
  1. Use an extract instead of a live data source.
  2. Use Tableau Desktop 10.4.
  3. If a parameter is involved use the DateTime() or DateTrunc() function in the calculation. For example:
    1. Create a Calculated Field called [ChooseDate CF] with the following formula:
      DATETIME(str(YEAR([ChooseDate])) + "-" + str(MONTH([ChooseDate])) + "-" + str(DAY([ChooseDate])) + " 00:00:00")
    2. Replace the 2 [ChooseDate] references in ChooseDateOrToday Calculated Field with the new Calculated Field [ChooseDate CF].

This behavior is related to a known issue (ID: 767195) which has been fixed in a recent release of Tableau Desktop.
