Error: "Firebird Database Error 335544344" When Launching Tableau Desktop on Mac

Issue

When launching Tableau Desktop for Mac, the following error occurs:
 
The custom geocoding data source /Applications/Tableau.app/Contents/install/local/data/AreaCode.tds contains errors: Firebird database error 335544432: lock manager error Unable to connect to the file "/Applications/Tableau.app/Contents/install/local/data/GEOCODING.FDB". Check that the file exists and that you have sufficient access privileges for it.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Mac OS

Resolution

Restart the computer running Tableau Desktop. This will release the file lock which is causing the error. 

Cause

Another process has placed an operating system lock on the Firebird database.

Software distribution tools are one potential source of file locks on Firebird database files.
