"Firebird database error 335544569" Geocoding Error

When opening workbooks on Tableau Desktop, you may see an error message similar to the following:

The custom geocoding folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Tableau\Tableau X.X\local\data\ has errors.
The custom geocoding data source C:\Program Files (x86)\Tableau\Tableau X.X\local\data\<filename>.tds contains errors:
Firebird database error 335544569: Dynamic SQL Error
-SQL error code = -204
-Table unknown
-At line X, column X
The table "<filename>" does not exist.

Unable to connect to the file "Files (x86)\Tableau\Tableau X.X\local\data\GEOCODING.FDB". Check that the file exists and that you have sufficient access privileges for it.


Tableau Desktop


To resolve this issue, follow the procedure below.
  1. Uninstall Tableau Desktop
  2. Delete the Tableau folder from C:\Program Files (x86)\Tableau directory.
  3. Reinstall Tableau Desktop. 


This issue is cause by corrupted custom geocoding or geocoding-related files.

Additional Information

  • Because custom geocoding applies to Tableau Desktop in general, rather than just a particular workbooks, this geocoding error message is likely to occur for all workbooks that are opened using custom geocoding.
  • In some cases, this issue can be also be resolved by removing custom geocoding instead.
