Error "Field 'column' which is included for filtering does not exist" when using a user-assigned Geographic Role field for Data Source or Extract filter

Issue

After setting the specified field 'xxx' as data source filter, the following error always pops up upon opening the workbook. 

Unable to complete action
Warnings occurred while loading the workbook "C:\Path\filename.twbx".
Field 'xxx' which is included for filtering does not exist.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 2022.2.2
  • Windows 10

Resolution

Check if the specific field set as data source field has a user-assigned geographic role or not by right clicking on the field and check if the following menu is set or not
> [Geographic Role]> [Create from]

If so, set the geographic role to be none by clicking on the menu [Geographic Role] > [None] as a workaround.
