Error "The drivers necessary ... are not properly installed" Connecting to Teradata on Mac OS X Yosemite

When connecting to Teradata from Tableau desktop on Mac OS X Yosemite, the following error might occur:
Server error (pid=1381): The drivers necessary to connect to this database server are not properly installed.  Visit to download driver setup files.
[iODBC][Driver Manager]dlopen(/Library/Application Support/teradata/client/ODBC/lib/tdata.dylib, 6): Library not loaded: libtdparse.dylib

  • Tableau Desktop 8.2
  • Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite)
  • ODBC Administrator


Option 1

Upgrade the Teradata driver to version 14.10. For more information, see Drivers & Activation.

Option 2

If upgrading the driver is not option, you can connect to Teradata by opening Tableau Desktop in Terminal.
  1. Open Terminal.
  2. Navigate to the Applications directory.
  3. Enter the following command: Open


Because Mac OS X Yosemite does not support launchd.conf, Tableau Desktop is unable to load DSNs and drivers.

Additional Information

In addition to the new drivers, it may be necessary to download ODBC Manager, rather than ODBC Administrator.
