Issue

After Tableau Server is upgraded to 10.5.0, hyper is going down repeatedly. Restarting server can pull Hyper up, but it will go down after an unsure period of time.

Additionally, you may notice an error similar to the following in the backgrounder logs:
<Date and Time> (Default,,,,752607,:external_query_cache_warmup,-) pool-4-thread-1 : ERROR com.tableausoftware.model.workgroup.workers.ExternalQueryCacheWarmupWorker - Exception while warming up View[65]:Workbook[19] com.tableausoftware.nativeapi.dll.FederatedDataSourceException: PQstatus: 1, could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061)
Is the server running on host "localhost" (<address>)
and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 7483?

Environment

  • Tableau Server 10.5.0 - 10.5.1
  • Hyper

Resolution

Upgrade to Tableau Server 10.5.2 or a newer version. For more information, see Upgrade Tableau Server Overview.

If unable to upgrade, work with the Tableau Server Administrator to have hyperd.exe replaced with hyperd_sse2.exe:
  1. Stop Tableau Server.
  2. Navigate to Hyper folder: C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\10.5\hyper
  3. Back up both hyperd.exe and hyperd_sse2.exe
  4. Rename hyperd.exe to a hyperdold.exe
  5. Rename hyperd_sse2.exe to hyperd.exe
  6. Start Tableau Server
