Error Code 62ABBC15, Bad Connection When Connecting to Azure Synapse

Issue

When trying to connect to Azure Synapse data, the following error occurs:

Bad Connection: Tableau could not connect to the data source.
Error Code: 62ABBC15

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server]Invalid cursor state

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 2022.2
  • Windows 10
  • ODBC SQL Server
  • Azure Synapse Analytics

Resolution

On Windows:

1.  On the Start Menu, type "ODBC Data Sourcesx64 bit" .
2.  In the ODBC Data Source Administrator window, select the Drivers tab.
3.  Look for any ODBC Driver for SQL Server to determine if multiple ODBC Driver versions are installed for SQL Server.  If more than one driver is present, uninstall all drivers related to the ODBC Sql Server.
4. Close Tableau Desktop and check the Task Manager to be sure that all instances of Tableau Desktop are closed.
5. Install the Version 17 of the ODBC SQL Server driver from the Microsoft website.
 

Cause

Multiple ODBC MS SQL Server drivers are present.  Multiple versions of the ODBC SQL Server drivers can be installed when Windows is upgraded from an older version.
