Error “Can’t analyze data due a system error” When Accessing Ask Data

When you view a data source in Ask Data, the following error appears,

“Can’t analyze data due a system error”
and the only field available is Number of Records.

The data source is either:
  • A tabcmd or REST API upload of an extract created with Tableau Prep Builder
  • An upload from Alteryx


    • Tableau Online
    • Tableau Server 2019.1 and later


    • Upgrade to Tableau Server 2019.4, 2020.1 or later.
    • If upgrade is not possible, as a workaround publish the extract from Tableau Desktop or Prep Builder directly to Tableau Online or Tableau Server.


    This is a known issue that is fixed in a more recent version.
