Error “Can’t analyze data due a system error” When Accessing Ask Data

Issue

When you view a data source in Ask Data, the following error appears,

“Can’t analyze data due a system error”
 
and the only field available is Number of Records.

The data source is either:
  • A tabcmd or REST API upload of an extract created with Tableau Prep Builder
  • An upload from Alteryx

Environment

    • Tableau Online
    • Tableau Server 2019.1 and later

    Resolution

    This behavior is caused by a known issue that is currently under investigation.
    As a workaround, publish the extract from Tableau Desktop or Prep Builder directly to Tableau Online or Tableau Server.
