Issue

Attempting to connect to a new data source stalls for 2-3 minutes and then results in the following error: 

Bad Connection. Error Code 3834876D

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Excel
  • Windows

Resolution

Rename the Logs folder.
  1. Close any open instances of Tableau Desktop.
  2. Locate folder the C:\Users\<user>\Documents\My Tableau Repository\ where <user> is your Windows username.
  3. Locate the folder named Logs.
  4. Rename the "Logs" folder to "OLD"
Connecting to your data source should now succeed.

Cause

Corrupted file in the logs folder.
