Error "An error has occurred" Saving Flow in Prep Builder 2020.3.1

Issue

When you attempt to save a flow in Tableau Prep Builder 2020.3.1, saving fails with the error "An error has occurred."

Environment

  • Tableau Prep 2020.3.1

Resolution

Option 1

Upgrade to Tableau Prep Builder version 2020.3.2

Option 2

Use the following workaround.
 
  1. Select all the steps in your flow. This can be done via click & drag, or CTRL-A (Windows) / Command-A (Mac)
  2. Select File > Save Steps as Flow
  3. Close the previous file 
  4. Open the new copy of your flow in Prep Builder.
Note: This workaround may need to be repeated each time the flow needs to be saved.

Cause

This behavior is related to a known issue with ID 1162037, which was corrected in Tableau Prep version 2020.3.2. 

Additional Information

The error will occur when trying to save any flow that connects to a database table which contains either a primary or foreign key.
