From an administrative command prompt, when you run the tabadmin start command, Tableau Server does not start, and the following error occurs at the command prompt:

com.tableausoftware.tabctl.dll.exception: Unable to start service 'tabsvc': (1069) the service did not start due to a logon error

com.tableausoftware.tabctl.dll.Exception: Unable to start service 'tabsvc': (1069) The service did not start due to a logon failure.

  • Tableau Server
  • Windows

  1. Verify "Log on as a service" is enabled per Verify the Local Security Policy
  2. Close the Command Prompt window.
  3. On the Windows Start menu, select Tableau Server <version> > Configure Tableau Server.
  4. Verify with your IT team that the Run As user account that you designated for Tableau Server is not locked out or disabled.
  5. Under Run As User, re-enter the user name and password, and then click OK.
  6. On the computer running Tableau Server, open a command prompt as an administrator.
  7. Navigate to the Tableau Server bin directory, located by default at C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\<version>\bin, and run the following commands:

    tabadmin config
    tabadmin restart

Tableau Server executes all processes as the Run As user. If there is any issue with the password for that user, the processes do not execute properly.
