Error: "0x80070652" Failure With MSI Package Occur When Installing Tableau Desktop

Issue

When attempting to install Tableau Desktop, the installation begins, then quits, and one of the following error might occur on screen or in the Desktop logs: 

Error 0x80070652: Failed to install MSI package.
 
OR
Error 0x80070652: Failed to execute MSI package.
 
OR
"Tableau <version> <build number>
Setup Failed
One or more issues caused the setup to fail. Please fix the issues and then retry setup. For more information see the log file.
0x80070652 - Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install.

Resolution

Option 1

Run the installer as an administrator:
  1. Right click the "TableauDesktop-64bit-9-3-#.exe" installer file
  2. Select the option to "Run as administrator"

Option 2

  1. Check whether Windows Update is currently running. 
  2. If Windows Update is running, allow it to complete, then attempt the install again.

Option 3

Work with your IT team to check if another program failed to update and clear the failed installation.
 

Cause

An issue with the MSI file which is a Microsoft system specific installer file used for many program installations.
