Database Communication Error Occurs Accessing Published Workbook Using An Embedded Live Bridge Connection

Published: 23 Dec 2021

Tableau Online cannot connect to the data source when the data source is a live embedded copy. This is by design.

  • Tableau Bridge
  • Live Embedded Data Sources which use Tableau Bridge Client.

To resolve the issue, go through these steps.
  1. Confirm the data source has been published separately to Tableau Online.
  2. Open the workbook in question in Tableau Desktop.
  3. Connect to the published data source in Tableau Online.
  4. Replace the embedded copy of the data source with the published one. See Replace Data Sources.
  5. Republish the workbook and choose to use the published copy of the data source.

The workbook is using live embedded data source(s) instead of the published data source(s).
