When connecting to an Essbase database, or when opening a workbook with an existing connection to an Essbase database, Tableau Desktop may take longer than expected to complete the connection.

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Essbase
  • User Defined Attributes (UDA)

  1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  2. Navigate to the Tableau Desktop bin folder. By default, this folder is located at:
    • On a 32-bit computer: cd "C:\Program Files\Tableau\[version]\bin"
    • On a 64-bit computer: cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tableau\[version]\bin"
  3. Enter the following command:
  1. tableau.exe -DSkipEssbaseUDA=true

Tableau Desktop is validating the User Defined Attributes, which increases the amount of time necessary to make a successful connection.
