Chart Color Changed After Publishing a Workbook (Japanese environment)

Published: 16 Aug 2019
Last Modified Date: 19 Aug 2019

Issue

If the Tableau Desktop host PC's region format is Japanese but the Server host computer's region format is English, then the chart color might change after the publication of the workbook on Tableau Server.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Tableau Server
  • Windows

Resolution

Try the following workaround:
  1. Change the Desktop host PC's region format to English
  2. Modify the workbook as desired
  3. Re-publish the workbook to Tableau Server
  4. Then change the region format back to its previous region

Cause

Japanese region format distinguishes upper case / lower case but English region format does not.
  • For example, "Tech" & "tech" are two different members in Japanese region format but will be recognized as one member in English region format.
  • If Tech & tech are set to different colors and if one of them is removed / filtered out of the view, then the other dimension name might be displayed as the color set to the filtered out dimension.
