  • MS SQL Server
  • macOS 10.15
  • Active Directory

There can be 2 different solutions depending upon the requirement.

Option 1

Use SQL Authentication instead of Windows Authentication.
Error "[Simba][SqlServerODBC] (15) Failed to connect to the SQL Server instance: [28000]" Connecting to Azure SQL on Mac

Option 2

If using Active Directory the workaround would be:
1. Reinstall the 1.5.5 driver.
2. Use the TDC file provided in attachments (mssql_integrated.tdc) which will add ‘Integrated Security=true’ to the connection string.
3. Save it to Documents\My Tableau Repository\Datasources.
Help Article: (Use the TDC file with Tableau Desktop)
4. Restart Tableau Desktop.

5. Connect to the SQL Server.

Simba SQL Server ODBC driver v1.5.5 requires 'Integrated Security=true' in the connection string for NTLM & Kerberos Windows Authentication on Mac.
