Creating an extract of a BigQuery data source takes longer than expected.

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Tableau Server
  • Google BigQuery

Ensure that you are using Tableau version 9.1.10 (released May 17, 2016), or newer. Customizations were added from this version onward to reduce the time taken to create large extracts.

This behavior is related to known issue ID 507267 and was resolved in the 9.1.10 release of Tableau Desktop, and all more recent versions.

Additional Information

For even greater extract creation performance with a BigQuery data source, consider setting up a process to export the data into Google Cloud Storage, and then use the Tableau Extract API to create an extract from the flat files in Google Cloud Storage.
