Issue

Attempting to create an extract using web edit in Tableau Server 2023.1.2 on Ubuntu fails with the error below.

com.tableausoftware.server.status.reporting.TableauRuntimeException:
Transaction silently rolled back because it has been marked as rollback-only.

The above error is displayed when you try to create an extract in the web edit data pane.

Environment

  • Tableau Server 2023.1.2
  • Ubuntu

Resolution

Possible workaround:

Create a live data source in web edit then toggle the 'data is' menu drop down in the Tableau Server browse interface.
  1. Create published data source in webedit, leave it as a live data source.
  2. Browse to the data source in Tableau Server's GUI. e.g., http://example.tableau.com/#/datasources/23/connections
  3. Toggle the 'Data is' drop down menu at the top, near the data source name, from 'Live' to 'Extract'. A 'create extract' job will be created.
  4. Once the job completes, confirm that a new workbook can be created from the data source.

Cause

Tableau Development Team is investigating this error under Known Issue W-13665676.
