Aliases Are Not Recognized When Using Logical Functions

Issue

When you create aliases (alternate names) for members in a dimension, they are not recognized in Logical Functions.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop

Resolution

When you want to use a dimension with aliases in Logical Functions, specify the original names. Below is an example.

When aliases are set as follows:

The following calculated fields behave as follows.
[Use Aliases]
IF [Region] = "C" THEN [Sales] END
[Use Original Names]
IF [Region] = "Central" THEN [Sales] END

Cause

If a dimension has aliases, the aliases are displayed in the view. However, the Logical Functions determines the original member names.
