Unable to Fully Collapse Nested Containers

Issue

When using a collapsed container object in a dashboard, the container does not collapse completely and so a gap is visible in the dashboard.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop

Resolution

Depending on the specific use case, one possible workaround is to use the 'Show/Hide Button' feature, introduced in Tableau 2019.2.

Another is to restructure the view so that a layout container will not contain another empty layout container. For example, if the original view contained one horizontal layout container with multiple vertical layout containers, each of which has a worksheet plus a title worksheet, then the final view may have two horizontal layout containers, one with all of the title worksheets and the other with all of the worksheets. Alternatively, a calculation containing just the desired title text could be added to the Columns shelf, so that the dimension header can be used in place of a title.

Cause

The intended design is for empty nested layout containers to be 30 pixels wide or high.
