Issue

Tableau Desktop is unable to connect to MySQL referencing lack of drivers even though the driver has been installed:
Tableau Desktop still prompts the driver message

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Windows 10
  • MySQL
  • MongoDB

Resolution

  1. Please make sure your Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) are up to date. You can obtain the latest version from Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)

  2. Make sure the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio ( VC++ Runtime 2015) is installed.

  3. If 1,2 doesn’t work, uninstall and reinstall the latest driver: https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/ (Windows, 64-bit, MSI).

  4. If 3 doesn’t work, uninstall the 8.0 driver. Install 5.3.13 driver from here: https://downloads.mysql.com/archives/c-odbc/
