Tableau Desktop Exits Unexpectedly When Connecting to a Published Datasource

When connecting to a published datasource, Tableau Desktop may quit unexpectedly. 



  • Tableau Desktop 2020.1 and newer
  • Windows


Try the following workaround:
  1. On the Tableau Desktop computer, go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections tab > LAN settings.
  2. If the 'Automatically detect settings' option is selected, deselect the option, and then click 'OK' to exit the dialog.
  3. If the 'Automatically detect settings' option is selected and you are unable to deselect the option, please work with your IT team to deselect the option.
  4. Check whether the issue still occurs in Tableau Desktop.
