Issue

When connecting to an .rdata file, the following error may occur:

An error occurred while communicating with the data source
Unable to connect to the server. Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.
Error Code: 6B7CAABB

The table '[TableauTemp].[
<file name>.rdata]' does not exist.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 2020.1 and newer
  • R File

Resolution

Ensure that the object in the R file has a name.

For example, saving the R file using the following method results in the object being unnamed:
data_tableau%>%
save(file="file_name.rdata")

The following method results in a named object:
save(data_tableau, file="file_name.rdata")

Cause

The new method of reading R data files, introduced in Tableau 2020.1, requires the object in the R data file to have a name.
