Error "Invalid Table Name Value. The Table [Tableautemp].[Xxx$] Does Not Exist" In Tableau Prep Builder

Issue

When editing data connection in Tableau Prep Builder, the following error may shows on input node.
 

Error in [DatasourceName]. Unable to connect to datasource.

An error occurred while communicating with the datasource.
Invalid table name value. the table [Tableautemp].[Xxx$] does not exist.

Environment

  • Tableau Prep Builder
  • Excel

Resolution

Option 1

Modify the name of the table (or sheet name) by selecting Edit, and reconnect to the data source.
Check the name of the table(or sheet name) in the data source, whether Excel or Cloud data source, make updates to the table name as needed, then reconnect to the data source.

Option 2

1. Click "+" button to read in new datasource, for example "SampleDS2.xlsx"

2.  Add the new table name to the connection pane as a new input node.
3.  Add a clean step which contains no changes to the new input node 
4.  Add the clean step created in step 3 to existed flow.

Cause

The specified table causing the error message has been renamed in the data source.

For example, in Excel file, sheet name is recognized as table name.
When sheet name in new datasource file does not match the existing one, this error may occur.
