How to use a .tdc file with a specified datasource, instead of using it with the whole Tableau Server.

  • Tableau Server

1. Prepare the .tdc file that matches your database.
For more information about .TDC files, see Make customizations global with a TDC file.

2. Use the tdc file with Tableau Desktop.
For more information, see Use the TDC file with Tableau Desktop.

3. Create the datasource or the datasource-embedded workbook, and save it with Tableau Desktop.
Note: You also can open your existing datasource or datasource-embedded workbook and just re-save it without any change.

4. Publish the saved datasource / datasource-embedded workbook to your Tableau Server.

Now, you can use the datasource / datasource-embedded workbook with tdc-emdedded, and you do not need to deploy the .tdc file to the whole Tableau Server.
This may be helpful in case you do not want to use the .tdc file to all of your datasource on Tableau Server.

Note: Tableau does not test or support TDC files. These files should be used as a tool to explore or occasionally address issues with your data connection. Creating and maintaining TDC files requires careful manual editing, and there is no support for sharing these files.
