Troubleshooting

Sometimes the upgrade to the licensed version may not complete successfully, if Tableau Server was not stopped prior to activating the new product key. One way you can determine whether the upgrade was successful is by referring to the Tableau Server Licenses page. If you see that the number of available Interactors reflects the trial and not the licensed version, the upgrade was unsuccessful. Use the following procedure to complete the upgrade.

  1. On the machine running Tableau Server, open the Command Prompt, and follow instructions in this page Tableau Services Manager (TSM) command line interface (CLI) to run and authenticate with tsm.
  2. Type the following command to stop Tableau Server: tsm stop
  3. Type the following command to start Tableau Server: tsm start
  4. Type the following command to confirm Tableau Server has restarted: tsm status -v
