Answer

Fields can be created for each date level and then should be hierarchical.  Here are the sample steps.

1. Connect to the Sample -Superstore data.

2. Create a new calculated field with the following:
  Name : YEAR
  Calculation :DATEPART('year', [Order Date])

3. Create a new calculated field with the following:
  Name : QUARTER
  Calculation :DATEPART('quarter', [Order Date])

4. Create a new calculated field with the following:
  Name : MONTH
  Calculation :DATEPART('month', [Order Date])

5. Create a new calculated field with the following:
  Name : DAY
  Calculation :DATEPART('day', [Order Date])

6. Right-click on the fields below and Convert to Dimension.
  *YEAR
  *QUARTER
  *MONTH
  *DAY

7. Select all the four fields then right-click to select Hierarchy > Create Hierarchy.

8. Enter the Hierarchy name.

9. Drag the new hierarchy DATE to Rows and drill-down to the DAY.

10. Drag Sales to crosstab.
