How to remove text or background color from grand totals.

Tableau Desktop

Option 1: Tableau Desktop 9.3

  1. Select Color > Edit Colors.
  2. Uncheck Include Totals.

Option 2: Tableau Desktop 9.2 and earlier versions

Step 1: Set up the view
  1. In Tableau Desktop, connect to Superstore sample data.
  2. Drag Category to Rows.
  3. Double-click Profit and then double-click Sales.
  4. Select Analysis > Totals > Show Column Grand Totals.
  5. Select Analysis > Create Calculated Field.
  6. In the Calculated Field dialog box that opens, enter a name for the field. The Grand Total Excluded.twbx example workbook uses Color Steps (dynamic).
  7. In the formula field, type the following, and then click OK:
    IF MIN([Category]) != MAX([Category]) THEN "Grand Total"
    ELSEIF SUM([Profit])>(WINDOW_MAX(SUM([Profit]))*.666666) THEN "Light Red"
ELSEIF SUM([Profit])<=(WINDOW_MAX(SUM([Profit]))*.666666) AND SUM([Profit])>(WINDOW_MAX(SUM([Profit]))*.333333) THEN "Red"
    ELSE "Dark Red"
Step 2: Use the calculated field to set up cell color
  1. Drag Color Steps (dynamic) to Colors.
  2. On the AGG(Color Steps (dynamic)) menu, select Edit Colors.
  3. In the Edit Colors dialog box, choose a color palette, and then assign colors to the data items. Assign a neutral color to Grand Total, and then click OK.
