Line Graph with Line for Total Sum of Other Lines

How to create a line graph with a line that represents the sum total of the data points of all other lines.


Tableau Desktop


Use dual axes. This example uses Superstore sample data. For more information, see the attached workbook.
  1. Drag Order Date to Columns 
  2. Right-click Order Date on Columns and select Month (continuous). 
  3. Drag Sales to Rows
  4. Drag Sales to Rows again
  5. Right-click on the second SUM(Sales) measure on Rows and select Dual Axis 
  6. Right-click the axis to the right of the view and select Synchronize Axis
  7. Select SUM(Sales) (2) on the Marks card 
  8. Drag Category to Color
