Identify Multi-Connection Data Sources
- In a web browser, login to Tableau Cloud as a Site Administrator.
- Select Explore and from the Explore drop-down, select All Data Sources.
- From the view mode drop-down, select List View.
- On the far right side, select the filter icon (
) to expand the filter window.
- Under the Data source drop-down, select All data sources.
- The data sources that show +1 (+n) next to the Connects to database name are federated connections.
Engage Database Administrator to Update Passwords
If you are updating the password for any of the identified multi-connection data sources, first engage the database administrator to update the password(s) there, then follow the next section on updating the connection password(s) in Tableau Cloud.Update Password for Multi-Connection Data Sources
From the All Data Sources page, select the name of the multi-connection data source under the Name column.If selecting the data source opens a workbook containing embedded data sources, follow the below steps.
- From the Show As: drop-down, select Connections.
- Select the Actions menu icon (
) next to each connection that needs to be updated and select Edit Connection...
- Enter the new database password and select Save.
- Select the Connections tab.
- Select the Actions menu icon (
) next to each connection that needs to be updated and select Edit Connection...
- Enter the new database password and select Save.

If you manage database connector credentials centrally using saved credentials, you can update them by going to your account settings. More information can be found in the Manage Saved Credentials for Data Connections article.
If you publish multi-connection data sources using REST API or Tableau Server Client Python library, be sure to update the associated database password(s) within your scripts.
Additional Information
The following error may occur if you do not first select Connections from the Show As menu:"The selected connections have different connection types and cannot be edited together"
