The Login-Based License Management (LBLM) login option will be on by default for Tableau Desktop 2020.1 for a segment of customers.
Is it possible to install Tableau Desktop so that no users see the option to log into Tableau Online or Tableau Server to use Tableau Desktop?

License activation using LBLM with:
  • Tableau Desktop
  • Tableau Server
  • Tableau Online
  • Tableau Prep

Option 1

Select LBLM=disabled on the installer from the command line.

There is no option in the Help Menu of Tableau Desktop or when running the interactive installer. LBLM is currently not available for offline activation mode.

Option 2

Run the ATRDiag.exe tool from the bin directory to turn off LBLM.

See Online Help pages not published yet.

Option 3

Edit the Windows Registry directly.

For more information, see Login-based License Management.

Additional Information

LBLM is turned on by default for 2020.1 but not available to all users. Tableau Online users will be the first group to use the product.
