Question

How to visualize the boundaries for Sigungu districts in South Korea in a map.

Tableau Desktop

Answer

As second-level administrative districts, sigungu are recognized as Counties in Tableau.
 

Build a Sigungu districs map

  1. Double click both Longitude and Latitude fields so that the map is automatically created
  2. In the Marks card, change the Marks type to a Map.
  3. Add the Sigungu Country and the si-gun-gu Province fields to Details
    1. Right click on the field for Sigungu district.
    2. Select Geographical role and choose County.
  4. Drag the "District" to Color and edit the color as desired
  5. Add the Sum of Population and District to Label

Build a Province View

  1. Double click both Longitude and Latitude fields so that the map is automatically created
  2. In the Marks card, change the Marks type to a Map.
  3. Add Country to Details
  4. Drag the "Province" to Color and edit the color as desired
  5. Add the Sum of Population to Label
